My career as a Financial Advisor and ultimately a business owner began as a way to grow and protect security and wealth for my own family. As a mom, my family is my first passion, and that led to my passion for helping other families. Now, nearly two decades later, I have the honour and privilege of being welcomed into living rooms, board rooms and kitchens across Ontario where I get to provide people with valuable strategies, solutions, money-saving and money-making concepts! As the need for this combination of expertise and heart grew, so did S.O.S Financial Group, ultimately developing into a full-service financial brokerage that helps hundreds of individuals, families and businesses each year.

I have been fortunate to have a very diverse, professional background starting life as a commercial pilot and flight instructor. The opportunity was presented to become a police officer in Ontario. I stepped into that doorway and had a successful career there. During my tenure there I was placed in charge of Health and Safety which eventually led to developing policy, and being an internal investigator of workplace harassment complaints. The diversity of policing propelled me into a position as an academic instructor at a police training facility. Durham College acknowledged my experience and placed me as a professor within Justice Studies with a focus on conflict resolution. As I felt the need to take my career in a different direction, I left to return as a full time airline pilot. I found myself traveling extensively overseas and even living in several countries.

My experience has taught me the value of financial planning which led me, ultimately, to S.O.S. I have been a Financial Advisor for 10 years and with S.O.S. Financial Group for 4 years. I chose S.O.S. because of the inherent ethics and organizational commitment to the client as well as the genuine and unparalleled desire to help families achieve financial security. I am not limited to the Advisor position though. I also hold the position of Compliance Officer for S.O.S. Financial Group, ensuring regulatory compliance as mandated by the Financial Services Report Authority Ontario (FSRAO). I feel that my diverse experience has placed me well to help others on their financial journey.

I have been licensed now for over 13 years and loving every minute of it. As an immigrant from the Caribbean, I understand the frustrations and challenges families face trying to get ahead financially. In today’s fast-changing world a lot depends on money and how it's stewarded. My passion is helping families understand the rudiments of a good financial foundation.

With that in mind, I also work patiently with our team of advisors to provide much-needed support in what can sometimes be an intimidating new field.

My name is Melissa Kimberly Reid and I'm proud to be part of the S.O.S Financial Group family since 2017.

My multifaceted roles at S.O.S Financial Group stem from a passion based on personal experience and a previously developed administrative skill set.

Back in 2014 my husband and I found ourselves without a financial clue and our family in a heap of unmanageable debt. There was always more month than money and after declaring bankruptcy I decided that I needed a financial education with the right people servicing the true needs of their clients. I connected to April Simpkiss and jumped in with both feet.

Achieving my license was the entry to a whole new way of understanding how money works.
I currently serve as an advisor as well as S.O.S Financial Group’s new Debt Specialist. I am privileged to also serve as our CEO’s Executive Client Care Manager since 2019. It is fulfilling to help clients find hope and peace of mind with our financial solutions.

I wasn't born a money manager! I was, however, determined to become one, for the peace of mind and security of myself and my family. During the process, I was disillusioned to find that my own Financial Advisor and 2 others referred to me by friends would not assist and educate me until I had tens of thousands of dollars to invest with them! So, following much trial and error, I taught myself how to get out of debt, improve my credit score and begin to build wealth. Once that was achieved, I didn't know how to grow or protect my money. As I climbed that hill of learning, again unassisted by my own Advisor, a fire was lit in me that drove me to bring this hard-won knowledge and these new skills to others without demanding investments or charging fees in return. That's how my career with S.O.S Financial Group, a company that shares my philosophy and passion, was born.

My past life in the advertising industry, working with small, medium, and large businesses and corporations, naturally led to my providing guidance and leadership in Marketing for the brokerage and our incredible team. With their own expertise, drive, and passion, they make that job very easy!

I have been in the financial services industry for nearly 30 years now. None have been as satisfying or impactful as my last four years as a Financial Advisor with S.O.S Financial Group. My background and interest in the field led me to get my license. The shared philosophy with the leaders at S.O.S made it the perfect place to focus on truly helping people with my skill set and experience. Whether it’s helping someone solve a debt crisis or bringing a health and dental plan to a business, or anything in between, there is nothing so rewarding as seeing a plan come together and knowing that I have done right by a client. When I’m not doing that, I can be found relishing time with my three daughters or proudly playing as a member of the Toronto Signals Trumpet Band.

The diverseness of my financial career, along with my presentation skills and a passion for sharing information combined to position me as the ideal candidate to take on the additional role of Training Manager for S.O.S Financial Group. In this capacity, I relish the opportunity to bring knowledge to and inspire passion in new representatives as I help them get their licenses to practice in this amazing industry.
